Boiled eggs have never been so simple. Have a quick and easy Instant Pot Boiled Eggs And Toast ready in under 10 minutes. You can do these eggs in your instant pot or in the air fryer - both devices use pressure cooker mode.

Why Instant Boiled Eggs?

The ability to demonstrate the versatility of the instant pot or air fryer is so easy to show with this dish. There are loads of recipes that an instant pot pressure cooker and slow cooker can do but to go back to basics and still deliver is what gives it the edge.

This dish has always been a family favourite of ours down it the simplicity of how quick it is to put together and also helps use up eggs and bread when they are getting close to their best before date.

There are obviously other ways to prepare the eggs. Simply using some boiling water in a small pan from your set of pans will get this done in 3 minutes, once the egg starts boiling. Using an Instant pot you can set it and forget it until you hear the beep. That is why I prefer this method.

How long do Air Fryer/Instant Pot Boiled Eggs take?

Having had the air fryer for a while, I've found the following table may be useful for some.

Small EggMedium EggLarge Egg
Soft Boiled3:3045
Medium Boiled4:3056
Hard Boiled8:30910
Soft boiled are good for dipping.

  • Soft Boiled - Great for dipping soldiers in to
  • Medium Boiled - Ideal for a salad or buffet
  • Hard boiled - This is the one for sandwiches or the lunch box

How healthy are eggs?

For those of you who are watching the calories you are consuming may find this section useful.

The calories from an egg will differ due to various sizes and how they are prepared. Usually, on average a single medium-sized egg will contain around 66 calories, an average small egg will contain around 55 calories and an average large egg will be somewhere around 80 calories. This dish has been worked out using large eggs (so 160 in total) with the rest of the calories being in the bread.

Instant pot or air fryer boiled eggs are no more or less healthy than boiling an egg in a pan so no worries there. The benefit for this dish is all down to the preparation. There is no watching pans boil or setting kitchen timers. The hard work is all done by the pot.

Soldiers On The Side

Don't forget the most important addition to a successful boiled egg dish - soldiers. So pieces of toast thinly sliced and lined up next to each other ready to get dipped into the runny egg yolk.

My favourite ones are made by toasting my home made fluffy white loaf of bread and using this on in the toaster. These make such nice soldiers and before they get sliced, the secret tip is to put the salt and pepper on the toast, rather than on the egg. This way the toast gets a full covering of salt and pepper and your instant pot boiled eggs have an even distribution of salt and pepper throughout the dish.

I stand by this that Instant Pot Boiled Eggs are one of the simplest yet tastiest dishes I have ever cooked. It wins because it takes next to no time to prepare but is a winner every time. I hope you enjoy making instant pot boiled eggs and toast some time soon.

Notes

Top tips for serving this dish:
  • Use fresh homemade bread for the toast. See my bread recipes for more information.
  • Season the toast before cutting into strips for a more even salt and pepper distribution.
Air Fryer Preheating tip - before putting Pressure Cook mode on, preheat the air fryer in normal "air fry mode" to build up some heat. Doing this before going into pressure cooker mode and putting in the water will allow it to build pressure and get to temperature much quicker. Also, use warm water to help get the steam and pressure up to the right level quickly.
When using pressure - make sure to use Low - if you go above this, the eggs may crack.

Cost to consider: Box of eggs, loaf of bread, Gas/Electric for cooking.
