My recipe for super easy mulled wine will keep you warm over the festive period and is great for when people pop round to visit. A good fruity spiced wine which will make your house have an amazing festive aroma.
This recipe is one you can bring together in 20 minutes and have something to serve to guests. In bulk, this can sit nicely in a big pot and be served up. You could consider using your Ninja Air Fryer in Buffet mode and keep the wine warm for a longer period of time.

How To Serve Super Easy Mulled Wine
Once your Super Easy Mulled Wine is ready to serve, the best way is to put it in small mugs. These will allow your guests to hold just by a normal handle but will also allow them to wrap their hands around in colder weather and help get that warm fuzzy feeling throughout.
This drink is a warming drink anyway but having the physical warmth from the cup in addition to the gentle heat from the spice will ensure your mulled wine serving gives the right effect when dished up.
What to serve with Mulled Wine?
Hey, it's Christmas right? The possibilities here are endless! My recommendations as to what to serve with this mulled wine recipe are as follows:
- Christmas Cake
- Cinnamon Swirls
- Mince Pie & Cream
- Cheese Straws
There are so many choices to serve up with. Also don't forget to add a little of the fruit from out of the wine along side it for extra Christmassy effect.
As well as the sweet dessert options, a selection of cheese and crackers goes well with mulled wine. We've all had wine and cheese and so this is no different.
Try some cheese with my sourdough crackers made from sourdough starter discard.
Fruit in the wine
When serving your mulled wine I think it adds a bit of something extra to make sure there is some fruit segments in the cup. While you can add these in from the pan after it has warmed, sometimes it is easier to add them separately. This will avoid splashing hot wine on you.
To prepare the fruit for the cup I recommend washing the wax off by rinsing it in warm water first and then wiping with some kitchen roll. Then slice the fruit lengthways. If you have a lot left over you can always put it in the pan to bring more flavour to the wine in there already.
When pouring the mulled wine, I'd recommend pouring it through a sieve to stop any cloves or fruit seeds getting in to the drink. If you have a tea strainer, that works particularly well. Failing that, you can use a coffee cafetière with a plunger which will let you separate the grains from the drink.
There are plenty of options for non alcoholic red wines which can be used as a mulled wine base. There are also fruit drinks which work similarly well such as Vimto or mixed fruit.
A typical bottle of red wine is around 9 units and with a mulled wine only taking up a part of the ingredients, you can expect at most 2 units per glass of mulled wine. To be on the safe side, treat a glass of mulled wine as you would a large glass of red wine.

The Recipe

Super Easy Mulled Wine
Ingredients
- 375 ml Red Wine
- 1 tablespoon Honey
- 1 tablespoon Maple Syrup
- 6 Whole cloves
- ½ teaspoon Mixed Spice
- ½ teaspoon All Spice Berries
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks Or ½ teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Orange Sliced
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients into a pan and place on the hob. Heat this up until it just starts to bubble and then turn the heat down so it stops.375 ml Red Wine, 1 tbsp Honey, 1 tbsp Maple Syrup, 6 Whole cloves, ½ tsp Mixed Spice, ½ tsp All Spice Berries, 2 Cinnamon Sticks, 1 Orange
- Leave on the heat for at least 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours), stir occasionally but make sure it doesn't boil. The heat is just to warm the wine through and bring the flavours out, its not for cooking off the wine.
- Sieve off the liquid into a jug and then serve into cups. Serve with a little more sliced orange.
