Building on the nduja stuffed tomatoes recipe I shared on this post I wanted to show how great this was as a pizza topping. Check this recipe out for an alternative pizza topping which you can use to spice up a plain pizza.

This is based on a simple margherita pizza with a few added extras to make it spicy.

Ingredients

The extra addition to this pizza is the nduja tomatoes. This contain nduja paste and are stuffed into a half of a cherry tomato. This melts in to the cheese and gives a bit of a kick to the pizza.

Instructions

This pizza recipe assumes you have the basic pizza dough recipe all prepared and stretched out. If you need a pizza dough recipe then check out my simple pizza dough recipe post for more details.

Uncooked tomato and nduja pizza.
  1. On the stretched pizza dough, spread the tomato pizza sauce and then sprinkle with cheese. Dot a few nduja stuffed tomato halves around the top. Aim for 8 halves per pizza.

  1. Cook in a pizza oven for 60 to 90 seconds. If cooking in a conventional oven, aim for 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbling in the middle.

Hint: Serve the pizza from a plate, but slice on a chopping board using a pizza cutter wheel. This will give you a much better cut. Aim for slicing in to 8 (or 6 if you are not that hungry - dad joke).

Variations

As with all pizzas you can vary the toppings as you wish. Add a bit of onion and garlic, or more cheese.

  • Spicy - add chili pepper flakes while cooking to increase the heat.
  • BBQ - try a BBQ sauce base instead of tomato pizza sauce.

Just be careful not to overload the pizza toppings as cooking times will increase and you may end up burning the underneath.

Equipment

In my opinion the best tasting pizzas get cooked in a real wood fired stone based pizza oven. There are plenty of options for getting a pizza oven for home. I tried and tested a few out before making a commitment to an oven and you can read bout my journey here.

It served me well and I really like my Woody Pizza oven.

Storage

Pizza stored well wrapped in foil and put in the fridge. It will last a few days there if it's not eaten beforehand.

For the best reheated pizza I recommend an air fryer. When I reheat my pizza in the Ninja foodie air fryer I think it tastes better that when it is cooked originally. Give it 3 minutes at 200C in Air Fry mode and tell me what you think.

It doesn't really freeze well as the cheese won't be nice on a fresh pizza. Avoid freezing if you can.

Ingredients

  • 1 ball Premade pizza dough
  • 100 g Grated pizza cheese
  • 2 tablespoon Pizza sauce
  • 8 halves Nduja stuffed tomatoes
  • 1 drizzle Olive oil

Instructions

  • On a lightly floured surface, stretch the pizza dough to make your base shape.
    1 ball Premade pizza dough
  • Spread on the pizza sauce all over the base leaving 1cm around from the edge.
    2 tbsp Pizza sauce
  • Sprinkle the cheese all over the pizza sauce.
    100 g Grated pizza cheese
  • Add on the stuffed tomatoes around the pizza.
    8 halves Nduja stuffed tomatoes
  • Drizzle with some olive oil and then cook in the pizza oven for 60 - 90 seconds until the cheese bubbles in the middle.
    1 drizzle Olive oil

Notes

The drizzle of olive oil just helps crisp up the top of the pizza when being cooked.
Take care not to burn the pizza dough by using a pizza paddle to lift the base from the stone if getting too hot.
