Equipment

Ingredients

  • 350 ml Beer
  • 240 g Plain flour 2 cups for US measurements
  • 1 Onion Large brown or white

Instructions

  • Chop off the top and bottom of the onion. Slice the rest of the onion into 5mm wide rings and separate out. Remove the outer rings with the skin.
    350 ml Beer, 240 g Plain flour, 1 Onion
  • Mix the beer and the flour and whisk until mixed. A few lumps will not be an issue.
If you can leave the batter covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours, that will help. Ideally leave it to rest for at least 30 minutes though.
Switch on the deep far fryer and set it to 180℃ to 190℃
  • When at temperature, drop the onions in the beer mix, then drop into the deep fat fryer for about 2 minutes until golden brown. You might need to cook in batches to allow for room in the deep fat fryer.
  • Drain in the fryer basket for a couple of minutes before patting with kitchen roll then serving.

Notes

The time to cook will depend on how much is in the fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches to stop them sticking together.
